The Making of the Splatter Paint Photo

These are the pictures that were taken while we were making the back drop for my self-portraits. It was incredibly windy that day and the sheet kept blowing on to me. My parents and I were covered in paint by the end of the painting session.

Beautiful Mess Portraits

For this assignment, I really wanted everything that I've been going through this past year to truly shine through. I have been going through more than the average college student would go through their senior year; I'm probably dealing with more than the average person, actually.

This last year, my aunt and uncle passed away with a 7 month gap between their deaths. They were brother and sister.

My aunt was an artist and she believed that as her niece (I'm the only girl on my father's side), that I may have some kind of skill built into me. I did not have the same artistic talents as her, rather mine were in movie making... a different type of art. One of our last conversations was how she wanted to teach me to use her film cameras. I ended up inheriting those prized possessions of hers about two weeks later, and I still have no clue how to use them.

My uncle was a lawyer who went to Notre Dame and walked on to their football team. He was so proud of my goals and was always a looming figure in my high school track and field life. A main reason for this is because he actually started the track program at my high school, Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville, FL. I can hear his voice echoing in my ears about how proud he is of me that I am applying to graduate school at his alma mater and hoping to join the Fighting Irish.

The first picture is for my aunt. She would have loved my beautiful mess of a painting.

The second picture is for my uncle. He would have been so proud that I have continued smiling and pursuing my dreams.

The third picture is for me. Because as happy as I am, it still hurts and it is still very hard. I have learned to say "It's not okay." It's not okay; but it is becoming better.

These pictures are my "beautiful mess" of the wonderful life I am living. Tragic sometimes, but beautiful all the same.
